Marilyn and Lew write this book from the perspective of employees at AT&T during some rough times. Incredibly American not only chronicles these difficult periods for the company, but shows how great gains were made. What makes this book different from other quality improvement sources is that it's based on looking at the common denominator among American workers (and all Americans, in general)--the American archetype. According to this type of research, there are certain similarities among all of us brought up in this culture; ways we view the world around us based on our upbringing. And what the people at AT&T realized through conducting this research is that as Americans we need to attempt a task, ill-prepared; fail at the task, and feel ashamed and embarrassed; use this emotion, with the help of mentors and coaches, and not only try again and succeed, but often succeed beyond our wildest dreams. I enjoyed reading this book not only for its interesting and informative content, but for its style--well written and easy to read (with diagrams, no less!) I'm buying a copy for my dad, a manager in the auto industry, as well as for a friend who's also a manager, and not originally from the U.S. Incredibly American would benefit those who are in the field of quality improvement, as well as those who manage (and want to motivate) people, as well as those who just want to understand a little better what being an "American" means on a different level.

Cindy Dake offers hope through the gospel of Christ from a fellow-traveller, and it is a much-needed encouragement to the couples. This book is packed with practical knowledge, but other books can give that information. Its real strength is in relating that knowledge with biblical points. For instance, how does a Christian decide when to stop infertility treatments? What factors should be considered with medical treatment, adoption, or child-free living? Mrs. Dake doesn't make those decisions for you, but she makes sure you are aware of your options and factors that should go into making those decisions. A chapter is spent relating stories of infertility from the Bible, which is a faith builder to those of us feeling like we are alone in this experience. I also appreciate how the book is written to friends and family of the infertile couple, to help them be able to better minister to their loved ones.

I recommend this book to all of my friends dealing with infertilty!

Victor Lewis-Smith is one of the U.K's most feared and reviled TV critics and he is renowned for upsetting many people in the TV world today but he does it because he is sick of all the crap that is being cooked up by the TV people today in the name of "entertainment".

His reviews cut deep into these awful programmes and the people who make them, he shows no respite and no pity against these programmes and he is so truthful and so honest and there isn't many people out there who have the balls to say the things that need to be said.

Victor is extremely funny, his one-liners and gags hit home and he constantly causes a chuckle.

Buy this book and see a true genius at work.

Victor Lewis-Smith is a God, and i should know.

This book takes you from the 'What is going on in that slot?' question, right through to building something that you can plug into 'that slot'.

Generic interface circuits are extremely usefull, allowing you to concentrate on YOUR hardware, and not the drudgery of working out how to deal with the slot itself.

It's a shame its out of print, else I'd order it! As it is, either I need a second hand copy, or eventually my photo copies of odd pages off my friend (who refuses to part with it), will eventually need an index!

To those who can use a soldering iron, but refused to risk it on their pride and joy, get a copy.

To the publishers.... get it updated to cover PCI, and sell to those of us who are lost without it!
